Der erste Viral
Seit YouTube und facebook gehört Viral zum allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch. Jeder 6. Mensch auf der Erde – statistisch gesehen – hat beispielsweise das Video Gangnam Style gesehen. Dabei hat es mal ganz analog und sehr viel früher angefangen.
Ich war sehr überrascht, als ich im On the Media Podcast Podcast die Geschichte von Trey Parker and Matt Stone hörte. 1995 hatten die beiden Filmstudenten versucht, ihr aus Eigenmitteln finanziertes Projekt The True Story of Alfred Packer beim Sundance Film Festival unterzubringen. Nachdem das Festival ihren Beitrag abgelehnt hatte, mieteten beide ein Kino und zeigten ihren Film ausser Konkurrenz. Im Publikum saß ein Produzent der Fox-Studios. Und das war erst der Anfang. Die Geschichte hört sich an wir ein Krimi. Hier daher der Original-Take des Podcasts.
Auf Comedy Central entwickelten Trey Parker and Matt Stone übrigens später die Erfolgsserie South Park.
